Julian Assange Turns Himself In, Judge Denies Bail
From The Associate Press:
A British judge sent Julian Assange to jail on Tuesday, denying bail to the WikiLeaks founder who vowed to fight efforts to extradite him to Sweden in a sex-crimes investigation.
A WikiLeaks spokesman said the flow of secret U.S. diplomatic cables would not be affected by Assange’s legal troubles, nor by the group’s increasingly rocky finances as both Visa and MasterCard cut off key funding methods.
“This will not change our operation,” Kristinn Hrafnsson told The Associated Press. As if to underline the point, WikiLeaks released a dozen new diplomatic cables, its first publication in more than 24 hours, including the details of a NATO defense plan for Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania that prompted an indignant response from the Russian envoy to the alliance.

Assange turned himself in to Scotland Yard on Tuesday morning, and was sent to the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court in the early afternoon. He showed no reaction as Judge Howard Riddle denied him bail and sent him to jail until his next extradition hearing on Dec. 14.
WikiLeaks, meanwhile, came under increasing financial pressure Tuesday as it became increasingly difficult to collect the individual donations that fund most of the operations of the loosely knit group of activists. Visa Inc. said it would “suspend Visa payment acceptance on WikiLeaks’ website pending further investigation into the nature of its business and whether it contravenes Visa operating rules.” MasterCard said it would suspend payments “until the situation is resolved.” PayPal Inc., a popular online payment service, has already cut its links to the website, while Swiss authorities closed Assange’s new Swiss bank account on Monday, freezing tens of thousands of euros, according to his lawyers.
WikiLeaks is still soliciting donations through bank transfers to affiliates in Iceland and Germany, as well as by mail to an address at University of Melbourne in Australia.
Car-Jump Stunt on German TV Show Goes Horribly Wrong
From TheWrap.com:
Contestant Samuel Koch was trying to use special stilts to leap moving cars for the popular German show “Wetten Dass” (translated as “bet it,” or wanna bet”). He landed face-first after jumping a car driven by his father, as the audience applause turned to stunned silence.
Justin Bieber canceled a performance that had been scheduled to take place on the show after the jump Saturday. He tweeted: “Please pray for Samuel Koch & his family as we wait and hope for his health and safety.”
Warning: The Following Video is Disturbing
The German news agency BPAD quoted Duesseldorf hospital Dr. Wolfgang Raab as saying Koch suffered multiple back injuries and fractures, according to The Associated Press. Koch underwent surgery Sunday, and his condition was initially life threatening, Raab said.
Tragedy Strikes Christmas Parade
A christmas parade in Richmond, VA was cut short (literally, i guess) recently when a giant inflatable “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” had a run in (literally, i guess) with a traffic light which resulted in Rudolph receiving an epic head shot. OH THE HUMANITY!!!
Activists Assaulted At Hawaii State Capitol for Protesting Opening Prayer Ceremony
On April 29, 2010, activists Mitch Kahle and Kevin Hughes were assaulted by Ben Villaflor, the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms, and State Sheriff’s Deputies, for objecting to unconstitutional Christian prayers used to begin each session of the Hawaii State Legislature. Hughes was injured in the attack and was taken to the hospital for x-rays and treatment. Kahle was arrested and prosecuted, but was ultimately vindicated when Judge Leslie Hayashi found Kahle “NOT GUILTY” and ruled that: “The Senate’s [Christian] prayers violate the constitutional separation of church and state.”

Every Single Republican Senator Signed a Letter Declaring They Would Block Congress From Any Action Until Tax Cuts for the Rich Have Been Extended
From Salon.com:
With the ink barely dry on bipartisanship pledges, GOP senators go on strike, in defense of the wealthy
On Tuesday, President Obama said a bunch of high-minded things about a new era of bipartisan cooperation between Republicans and Democrats. On Wednesday, all 42 Republican senators signed a letter declaring that they would block Congress from any action at all until tax cuts for the wealthy have been safely extended.
…We write to inform you that we will not agree to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to any legislative item until the Senate has acted to fund the government and we have prevented the tax increase that is currently awaiting all American taxpayers. With little time left in this Congressional session, legislative scheduling should be focused on these critical priorities. While there are other items that might ultimately be worthy of the Senate’s attention, we cannot agree to prioritize any matters above the critical issues of funding the government and preventing a job-killing tax hike.

The military confirmed the exchange of firing, without providing more details.
Below are an AP News report and some raw video of the attacks.
Netflix Launches Streaming-Only Plan in US
From Joystiq.com:
Netflix, currently available in North America on all major consoles, has officially announced a $7.99 streaming-only plan for the US. For those who prefer their media to be disc-based, the service will be upping prices across the board for all unlimited plans by a few dollars, but you’ll still get streaming included.

Netflix’s streaming-only plan comes at a time when Hulu (the established DVD-by-mail service’s heir apparent) begins building a base on consoles. Hulu Plus currently offers mostly TV show streaming (with commercials) on PS3 for $9.99, with other consoles expected to be supported sometime in the future.
